Oct 22 - Oct 24, 2012
Dubai, United Arab Emirates
The United Nations has designated 2012 as the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Under the motto of “Safe, Accessible, Sustainable - Energy For All” leaders from member states of the United Nations, international organizations, and corporations come together in Dubai to lead a global conversation on energy issues. The primary objective is to chart a roadmap for a sustainable energy mix that can fuel global economic and social development. Siemens is proud to participate and co-sponsor the event.
“As the importance of electricity is growing, many countries have initiated a fundamental rethinking and restructuring of their energy systems – not only Germany with its highly acclaimed “energy transition.” Differing regional requirements for an economical and sustainable energy system are reflected by differing technology needs. Ultimately, a sustainable energy future depends on a wide range of technologies fitting together perfectly - from highly efficient solutions for conventional power plants to renewable energies, and from low-loss power transmission over great distances to smart grids and highly efficient energy applications. Investing in the innovation and development of such technologies and implementing them is at the heart of what Siemens does. “

Ministers’ roundtable on electricity
Oct 23, 2012
11:50 - 12:50 p.m.
Meeting the planet’s growing electricity demand will require trillions of dollars of infrastructure over the next 20 years. Without this investment, crippling blackouts will be the norm and many grids will be unable to accommodate the intermittencies of renewable energy sources such as solar or wind. Encouraging improvements in energy efficiency are helpful, but is this enough? This roundtable will examine these issues and discuss ways to address the challenges of electricity generation around the world.

Siemens in the Middle East
Siemens has a long history in the Middle East – we have been operating here for over 150 years – and we have been fortunate to witness and take part in the region’s dynamic development. As the Middle East embarks on building a sustainable energy future, Siemens has the knowledge and expertise to be a key driver towards, and partner in, achieving the region’s ambitious goals. With more than one answer, of course, since ‘one answer is not enough.’
