Future subsea processing facilities will grow to include several electrically-driven pumps and gas compressors to transport oil and gas over very long distances. As a trusted partner for the subsea industry, Siemens will offer robust Subsea Power Grids for variable speed drives supplied from an onshore power plant or platform. As a milestone on the road to large-scale seabed processing facilities, the Siemens Subsea Power Grid will be able to operate in a depth of 3000 meters with total reliability withstanding extreme pressure and harsh temperatures.
The grid is based on proven high-quality industrial components from Siemens: Transformers, switchgears and variable speed drives. The power components allow an installation on a common base frame distributed at seabed. All components within the Siemens Subsea Power Grid are retrievable.
Drawing from 15 years of experience in providing subsea power systems to offshore operators, Siemens has delivered more than 15 subsea tie-in projects to clients around the world (See References).
Our Subsea Power Grid at a glance
Step-down transformer
- For variable speed drive of pump motors
- Typical rating 72 to 36 kV/6, 6 kV for a variable speed long step-out power supply to consumers installed on up to 3000 meters water depth
MV switchgear
- Modular design with 4 breaker units mounted 2 by 2 in two in atmospheric canisters
- Fluid filled base, functioning as foundation of the switchgear station and as housing for the main bus bars, the wet-mate connectors and measuring transformers
Variable Speed Drive (VSD)
- Power rating: 5 MW
- Modular design, enclosed in a vessel, suitable for installation and operation in a depth of 3000 meters
