Generators with water-cooled stators and hydrogen-cooled rotor windings are optimal for the highest output ranges. Their compact design coupled with our unique direct water-cooled stator is suitable for large steam power plant applications ranging up to 2,235 MVA. Besides being designed to have this high capability, the generator is also designed to be very efficient (tested generator efficiency is nearly 99% at the 1,992 MVA nameplate rating), and it is designed to exhibit very low mechanical vibration levels.
The design of the 4-pole SGen-4000W turbo generator is fundamentally based on the 1,500-1,700 MVA Siemens “Konvoi” turbo generators.

- Not prone to contamination by dirt, oil and humidity
- Simple, low maintenance, primary water system with demineralized cooling water to suppress copper corrosion or steel cooling water ducts
- Bracket bearings and shaft seals arranged to minimize H2 leakage
- Frame arranged for ease of alignment and foundation loading
- Spring-mounted stator to minimize vibration transmission to foundation
- Pre-stressed, non-magnetic, through bolts minimizing the need for maintenance
- Stator bar tightness is maintained with pre-stressed ripple springs to avoid mechanical and electrical degradation
- Stator end windings surrounded by a glass-fiber cone for radial support
- Hydrogen-cooled rotor and water-cooled stator winding optimized to maximize output
- High-pressure multi-stage compressor blower for intense cooling
