Our proven SGT5-4000F is characterized by high performance, low power generating costs, long intervals between major inspections and an easy-to-service design. Since 1996 over 160 units have been installed world-wide. Together the fleet has more than 4.900.000 EOH.
Over the last years the worldwide demand for power has been growing continuously. Siemens anticipated and reacted to the needs of the market by further developing its simple and combined cycle power plant technologies for the SGT5-4000F and providing a full range of performance enhancements.
To help you make your operating assets more profitable, we offer the latest technologies to enhance your operating plant performance, reliability, availability and flexibility.
The performance enhancement feature of the Hydraulic Clearance Optimization upgrade is achieved by shifting the rotor against flow direction to optimize turbine clearances during steady state operation. The axial shift of the rotor is performed automatically by hydraulic pistons behind the compressor thrust bearing. The gain in power and efficiency due to the conical shape of the turbine is expected to be higher than the potential losses on the compressor side. The Hydraulic Clearance Optimization upgrade is implemented after an one hour warm-up period, i.e., when differential thermal expansions of rotor and casing components have equalized. Should a loss of hydraulic pressure occur, the system is designed for the rotor to move back to its original position automatically in a “fail-safe” manner.
The Hydraulic Clearance Optimization upgrade can be a cost-effective means to help you improve the overall performance of your gas turbine plant.
Benefits may include:
The HCO upgrade can be combined with other modernizations such as the Compressor Mass Flow Increase or the Turn Down upgrade.
The Hydraulic Clearance Optimization is state-of-the-art for new Siemens gas turbines of the SGT5-4000F (V94.3A) since July 2005.

The scope of this upgrade includes:
We recommend that the installation of this upgrade be performed at a major outage. We offer a full range of field service capabilities to help you manage your maintenance and outage schedules.
Since 2003 (first time application) more than 60 SGT5-4000F (V94.3A) units are in operation worldwide with the Hydraulic Clearance Optimization upgrade and have logged more than 970,000 equivalent operating hours (EOH)*.
Six units have been retrofitted worldwide:
