PSS®SINCAL (Siemens Network Calculation) is a high-performance planning tool for the simulation, evaluation and optimization of supply systems. It is successfully applied in more than 400 municipal utilities, regional and national power supply companies, industrial plants and consultants worldwide.
PSS®SINCAL offers state-of-the art software technology and a fully featured scope of analysis methodologies for electrical networks as well as gas, water and district heating networks – integrated in one powerful and intuitive user interface. Using a commercial data base as data repository allows easy integration into the customer’s IT environment. High-end automation features based on COM-server technology facilitate the implementation of user-specific solutions. The availability of many ready-to-use interfaces facilitates the integration into existing IT architectures.
PSS®SINCAL also serves as the foundation for the main database of all Siemens power system analysis products. Its fully unbalanced network model makes it the perfect tool for the simulation of distributed generation and wind modeling.
PSS®SINCAL Version 8.0 now available
Since October 2011 PSS®SINCAL Version 8.0 has been available. Version 8.0 features several new functionalities for the planning and analysis of electricity and pipe networks, with a focus on smart grid and wind modeling as well as interfaces to SCADA and metering systems.
A major enhancement in PSS®SINCAL V8.0 is the release of a 64-bit version of the application. Both the 32-bit version and the 64-bit version are automatically installed on 64-bit operating systems in the course of the setup. Both versions can be used simultaneously.
The user interface has been upgraded as well. Background maps with satellite pictures from the internet can be directly downloaded and updated in the PSS®SINCAL network diagram.
The necessary map data is provided by Bing™ Maps (Microsoft®) and requires registration with Bing™ Maps.
Furthermore, in the user interface of PSS®SINCAL V8.0 a completely new diagram system is available. Diagrams are now displayed as an entire page preview. Headers, footers, borders and information boxes are also displayed on the diagram page.
Regarding electrical networks PSS®SINCAL V8.0 offers several improvements. An enhanced line model with impedance matrix is now available for load flow. This model uses coupling data, therefore, the equivalent circuit diagram models the line.
Moreover with PSS®SINCAL V8.0 stability calculations for asymmetrical networks are also possible. This function is mainly used with new kinds of network structures such as micro grids. The main advantage is that asymmetrical networks can be freely modeled.
Passive and active network elements, which can be either 3-phase and/or 1-phase, can be depicted in load flow calculation.
PSS®SINCAL V8.0 has a completely new protection documentation which was created alongside the new diagram system. User-defined diagram pages with all the required data are prepared for each documented grading.
The diagram is divided into two parts: the one on the left shows the grading of the network and displays the network elements and protection devices schematically. On the right the actual diagram is displayed and shows the tripping characteristics of the protection devices in the grading.
Current ranges, damage curves, motor start-up data or transformer inrush can also be displayed in the diagram along with the tripping characteristics of the protection devices. PSS®SINCAL’s new protection documentation automatically generates both the grading and the diagram.
Results for harmonic calculations have been greatly enhanced for asymmetrical networks.
Now PSS®SINCAL provides the complete results for all phases. This means you can also analyze current and voltage distribution in asymmetrical networks in detail.
The economic efficiency calculation has been comprehensively enhanced in PSS®SINCAL V8.0. As a result the economic benefit of development and restructuring measures can be determined (using the net present value method) and costs can be evaluated at yearly intervals (using the cumulative method).
The calculation results are prepared annually at the end of the year. Thus both investment expenditures and ongoing annual costs can be evaluated. To actually evaluate the economic efficiency of network development or restructuring measures, the specific net present value has to be compared with the income expected during the observation period. Investments are considered to be commercially viable if the income is larger than the net present value of all the expenditures.
Also in terms of pipe networks PSS®SINCAL V8.0 offers a decisive improvement: PSS®SINCAL’s calculation methods for district heating networks have been adapted for use in districting cooling networks. All editing and modeling functions for districting cooling networks are now also available for district heating networks. These networks have exactly the same network elements, input data and results. Simply select the network type to be modeled in the calculation settings. The Network Type field selects between Heating and Cooling.
Many more features, e.g. in reliability calculation or handling of documents, have been integrated in PSS®SINCAL Version 8.0. For more information to this new version, please refer to the release notes.
