Siemens Steam Turbines of the SST-5000 series are often deployed in combined cycle power plants (CCPP) and in coal-fired steam power plants (SPP).
The SST-5000 series consists of a combined high-pressure/intermediate-pressure (HI) turbine, and a low-pressure (LP) turbine. Preassembled modules reduce coordination effort, on-site assembly time, and technical risk. The core turbine modules as well as the auxiliary systems are designed for maximum customer value. We provide auxiliary systems like lube oil system, seal steam system, evacuation system ,and additional systems. The SST-5000 steam turbine combined with a SGT-8000H gas turbine, achieves a world record efficiency of 61.5 percent in combined cycle applications.
In the past, it has mainly been steam power plants in the higher output range that have been equipped with the latest technology. As a result, supercritical and ultrasupercritical technology can be found in units larger than 500 MW. As responsible fuel utilization becomes more and more important to reduce CO2 emissions and global warming, the technology in power plants of all output classes has to undergo continuous development in order to meet today's environmental demands.

Furthermore, existing units can be modernized by implementing a modified boiler, main steam piping and a SST-5000 turbine with the latest technology. While coal consumption stays the same, a higher efficiency can be achieved, resulting in higher outputs.
This development in combination with a SGen-2000P generator can be a valuable asset for your project as the parameters of this steam turbine package allow attractive financing according to OECD regulations.
Compared to a state-of-the-art three-casing steam turbine, investment costs are lower due to its two-casing design. And, as maintenance intervals are longer – the first main inspection takes place after 12 years – operating costs for this steam turbine generator package are also lower.
The generator operates without hydrogen (H2) up to 550 MVA and features variable pressurized-air cooling with water-cooled stator windings. Without the related hydrogen/gas auxiliary systems, operating and maintenance costs and effort are lower than for traditional hydrogen-cooled products in this output class. The SGen-2000H series features pressurized-air cooling with a water-cooled stator winding.
The SGen-1200A series two-pole generators have ratings up to 370 MVA. This generators serves all operational modes, from base load to peaking operation, which means high operational flexibility.
High-pressure/intermediate-pressure (HI) turbine modules are delivered to site completely assembled – this allows a fast and simple on-site installation. Due to transportation restrictions, low-pressure (LP) turbine modules are delivered in several sections, like the rotor and inner and outer casings.
The SST-5000 series is installed as a low- or high-level arrangement. There are various exhaust configurations available to create an optimized plant layout: down-, single- and double-sided.
Various extractions are possible for feed water preheating (up to 9 stages), process steam, and district heating.
