Innovative solution for air separation
Several trends in the air separation market influenced the development of Siemens’ new isothermal turbocompressor. A lot of ASUs (air separation units) aim for capacities of 2,000 up to 3,500 tons of oxygen per day, which require volume flows of air between 400,000 and 700,000 m³ per hour – the range of the STC-SI. Secondly, the availability of exothermal processes in applications such as coal and gas to liquids (C/GTL) integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) plants makes steam turbines the preferred compressor drive. – the STC-SI is optimized for steam turbine drive. These trends go hand in hand with the increased demand for standardized products, less complex compressor train architecture and cost efficient compression solutions – as implemented in STC-SI design.
These isothermal compressors extend and optimize the existing product range for air separation. The concept combines well-proven technologies with innovative elements such as the integrated coolers and high-efficiency water separators. The technology is based on Siemens’ long term compressor expertise and comprehensive research and development.
