The forces driving energy market liberalization and privatization are changing the world of energy supply. Consequently, the business focus of the energy supply has shifted from supply reliability and cost minimization to competitiveness and optimization of earnings, which have become today's dominant factors and will remain so well in the future.
Today, energy supply companies are facing major challenges including competition, customer retention and satisfaction, and shareholder value. They must react quickly and flexibly to new requirements and changing market conditions. But they can only meet these challenges by reengineering and optimizing their existing business processes.
Siemens is the leading supplier for energy management and automation solutions in regulated and deregulated markets for:
Our understanding of your business processes - based on the experience gained from an installed base of more than 1800 control systems - enables us to ensure and consolidate your success. Meeting your needs is our business; we offer a comprehensive range of innovative, integrated and modular solutions, advanced technology, fast delivery and open systems. Our spectrum of solutions encompasses a wide spectrum of needs.

Spectrum Power™ 3 is the result of constant system improvement over the course of the last 40 years. That is how long we have been supplying SCADA and energy management systems (EMS) all over the world. We have already delivered more than 650 network control systems for energy companies ,and of these, more than 50 are based on Spectrum Power 3 with its open, distributed system architecture.
Siemens is a partner in the success of our customers. This means we can supply you with more than just hardware and software. Some other offerings include:
Scalable architecture
For small system sizes, virtualization may be used to combine many functions into a single physical pair of servers. For medium systems, applications may be distributed to different physical servers. And for the largest systems, multiple blades may be assigned to a single function, such as contingency analysis.
Reliable configuration
Servers with time-critical functions are supported by an appropriate backup computer (hot standby), and additional servers protect the less critical functions. Siemens’ customers report system availability to be above 99.95% in real-world operation.
The ability to bring data model changes into the on-line system with zero down time is another factor in Siemens’ exceptional system availability record. Since our data manager is transactional, data model changes can also be undone without interrupting the system.
Open communication
The Spectrum Power 3 front end processors can communicate with remote terminal units (RTUs) using not only standard protocols such as DNP 3.0 and IEC 61870-5, but also with many legacy protocols. Multiple protocols can be supported by a single server pair, but additional servers may be added to handle whatever data flows are required.
Communication with other control centers is supported with the ICCP (TASE 2.0) protocol. Both standard and encrypted versions are available. The choice of which version to use is made on a per-remote basis and may be changed in real time.
for today and for the future
Constantly growing efficiency of workstations and servers, networking, IT integration, relational databases and standardized interfaces - Spectrum Power 3 makes use of the most important technical trends - for your benefit.
The architecture of Spectrum Power 3 is scalable. Thus, this system is ideally suitable for the configuration of network control systems of any magnitude, with all possible combinations of application programs.
Regardless of whether requirements of size or functionality are involved - a Spectrum Powwer 3 EMS is expandable at any time and adapts readily to any changes.
Spectrum Power 3 provides cutting-edge technology for the future.
From database management to network applications - Spectrum Power 3 provides state-of-the-art functionality. Integrated in the data processing environment of your company, it supports complete business processes.
Spectrum Power 3 assures maximum-possible reliability and efficiency under all operating conditions. It is equipped with the latest software for network analysis, generation control and generation scheduling.
We provide you with reliable technology - supported by our wealth of experience. We have for years been a leading supplier of EMS systems, and the applications provided have proven eminently successful in systems of every conceivable size and complexity.
Conventional state estimation is not sufficiently robust for many systems. The requirement for a highly rugged design is in fact met by the use of orthogonal transformation techniques.
Siemens has here succeeded in making the technical breakthrough - with the Orthogonal State Estimator in Spectrum Power 3. It is both fast and robust.
A core function of network management is the optimal power flow. In the case of it is fully integrated in the control system, provides a clear, practical interface, and permits largely automated operational sequences and, at the same time, detailed analytical facilities for the specialist.
In addition, the optimal power flow of provides the following advantages:
In the planning and management of power station utilization, as well as when buying and selling electrical energy, various criteria must be observed. On the one hand, there are economic considerations, and on the other hand, technical and contractual conditions have to be observed.
The individual subfunctions in the control system must in each case meet the highest standarts and, at the same time, they must form a matched system with continiuous modeling and operation/display interface. Spectrum Spectrum 3 meets this requirement - for optimum, cost-effective energy utilization:
