Gasification offers one of the cleanest and most flexible ways of converting coal, petcoke, refinery residues or other low-grade fuels into high-value products such as electricity, chemicals or clean transportation fuels. Combining gasification with advanced gas turbines in Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) power plants results in a highly efficient and environmentally friendly technology for coal-based power generation. Gasification based plants can easily include readily available technology for CO2 capture allowing the CO2 to be transported to oil fields for enhanced oil recovery or to a site for sequestration.
The entrained-flow Siemens Fuel Gasifier (SFG) is able to convert a wide range of solid or liquid carbonaceous fuels and is ideally suited for all ranks of coal from anthracite coal to lignite with high ash and moisture content. Siemens Fuel Gasifier Test Center
The Siemens Gasification Test Center is located at our headquarters in Freiberg, Germany and is one of the most comprehensive gasification test facilities in the world. More than 60 different fuels have been tested so far, which gives Siemens a rich body of experience. The centerpiece of the Siemens Gasification Test Center is a 5 MWth gasification reactor which is complemented by a range of feedstock preparation systems (both solid and liquid) and related gas cleaning process units. At the Siemens Gasification Test Center, a broad range of test conditions can be simulated. It is used to:
- Determine detailed analytical data of feedstock and gasification products
- Optimize feedstock preparation to maximize efficiency and carbon conversion rate
- Determine optimum gasification process conditions
- Gain valuable information about expected products and environmental performance.
Dry Feeding Test Rig
The Siemens Gasification Test Center also includes a test rig for high-pressure coal feeding. This test rig consists of a large-scale, fully equipped dry feeding system and can be used to optimize feeding solutions. In particular, it allows the following aspects to be explored:
- Investigation of fluidization behavior under elevated pressure conditions
- Comparison of different coal density and velocity measurement systems
- Investigation of different feeding gases for solid feeding
- Test of alternative dry feeding systems
