Traction Transformer for trains and rolling stock

Traction Transformers for trains and railway stock transform the overhead contact line voltage, which ranges mainly from 15 kV or 25 kV to voltages suitable for traction converters (0.7 kV and 1.5 kV)
Siemens develops and produces Traction Transformers for rolling stock applications of all relevant ratings, voltage levels and customer-specific requirements.

Rated power of Traction Transformers: from 500 kVA to 10 MVA

Rated voltage: DC 1.5 kV / 3 kV // AC: 12 kV / 15 kV / 25 kV / 50 kV

Application:
Electric cars such as high-speed trains, electric multiple units (EMUs) and electric locomotives

Advantages / characteristics:
High experience with 4-system-transformers (2 AC / 2 DC systems); application of secondary (traction-) windings as netfilter in DC-operation; Special Traction Transformer products as per customer requirement

Traction Transformers for a high-speed-project in China. The first 20 units out of a total of 200 with a Voltage Level of 25 kV were delivered in 2010. In the meantime Siemens Traction Transformers also delivers a low-temperature-version: In 2011 80 units that were designed especially for a temperature down to -40°C were delivered from Nuremberg to China.
